FORMBRIM FIELD NOTES / DESIGN GUIDE

Cotton sport visor: the buying guide

A custom cotton sport visor has no crown to hold its shape around the head. The band, brim and rear adjustment do that work together. Begin with the intended band position and visor curve, then size the logo for the actual available height rather than borrowing artwork proportions from a baseball cap.

NOTE 01

Band position

Describe the band height and where it should sit. Review the visor worn to assess contact around the forehead and above the ears.

Show where the band should sit above the eyebrows and ears in a worn reference. Check the inside contact surface separately from the outer cotton. If the band feels uneven, mark the contact point instead of asking only for a larger size. Adjustment changes may affect both security and brim angle.

NOTE 02

Brim curve and symmetry

Define the brim curve and projection from a side reference. Keep the shape symmetrical and check that the edge is evenly finished.

Compare the visor from above and in profile. The front view alone can hide a difference in projection or curve. Ask which sample establishes the intended shape and inspect the edge at both sides. Keep band position consistent during this review so a tilted visor is not mistaken for a different brim.

NOTE 03

Band artwork size

Set logo size within the available band height. Include rear strap color and closure details so the design reads consistently from every angle.

Give the finished logo width and height, including any border. Leave space between the artwork and band seams, then review it on the worn item. Fine lettering on a shallow band needs an actual-size check. If it does not read, simplifying the artwork may be more useful than filling the entire band.

NOTE 04

Adjustment attachment

Review the band inside and adjustment attachment. Any comfort or performance requirement should be discussed against the actual sample.

Open and close the adjustment and inspect its attachment from inside. Check spare strap length and where it sits in use. Cotton appearance does not establish absorbency or another performance property; describe any functional requirement separately and discuss how it will be evaluated for the selected construction.

NOTE 05

A practical buying example

A club wants a white visor with a navy wordmark. The artwork taken from its baseball cap is too tall for the band. Keep the intended wordmark width in view while comparing a simpler layout, then assess the sample in wear. Enlarging the band just to fit an existing file could change the fit and appearance the club selected.

NOTE 06

Questions to settle before requesting a sample

Use the visor format when the open crown is part of the intended product. Ask about band dimensions, inside surface, rear adjustment and the usable decoration area. Compare it with a full cap if crown coverage is required. Approve the assembled band and brim together rather than treating the curved visor as the only fit reference.
